50 Ways to Create A Good Day

The most important caveat of the saying "Create A Good Day" is the first word of the sentence. "Create" is purposefully substituted for the oft-used word, "Have." The reason for the switch is that the word 'Have' implies that whatever type of day you're going to occur is not going to be under your control. It's more of a hope, or a wish, than an encouragement. I've even heard people say "Hope you have a good day!" as a salutation. Of course, these people aren't trying to make a bold statement and are more than likely simply being polite; but the message it sends goes against one of my core beliefs and that's why I had to switch it up.

The definition of the verb "Create" is 'to make or produce; to cause (a particular situation) to exist' according to Webster's Dictionary. It implies that you have control over whether you have good day or a bad day. Of course, your first thought may be that you cannot control everything that happens to you, and you're completely correct. I cannot control that the car in front of me is driving 10 miles under the speed limit, that I had to work the entire weekend, or that my vehicle's battery was dead when I went to start it this morning; but what I can control is how I react to those situations.

In any of those situations, I have the choice of allowing that negative situation to ruin my outlook for the rest of my day, creating a negative snowball effect that gets worse and worse as the day goes on. On the other hand, I can look at the situation and realize that I cannot control what's happening, but I can control how I respond to it. Instead of being frustrated at the 90-year-old lady driving 10 miles under the speed limit, I can be thankful that I have a job I can be late to work for. A lot of people don't have jobs. Another option is that I can appreciate that the woman in front of me is someone's grandma and although I'm frustrated with her, how would I want someone to treat my grandma if she were driving down the highway?

Whatever you have to do to 'Change Your Mind' as Sister Hazel sings about, is what you need to do. Realizing that you have the power over how every situation affects you and your day is a very powerful change in thinking. It isn't an overnight switch though. It takes practice and patience, but it is well worth the effort. Being able to create good days rather than being the punching bag of circumstances can change your life, one day at a time.

Below are 50 tips to help you create a better day, starting now.

  1. Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep
The quality of sleep you get the night before can affect your mood the following day. So, if you want to create a better day tomorrow, you have to make sure that you think positive things before you go to bed at night. Do not dwell on the bad things that happened to you during the day. Instead, Count the blessings that you do have; and do not be fooled into believing you have too few. The very fact the you're able to read this and use the internet puts you ahead of a majority of the world.
  2. Every Day is a New Day
The first thing that you should say to yourself the moment you wake up is that today will be great. Know that you have control of what kind of day you will have. You may not have control over what happens to you, but you do have control over how you respond to it. Treating every day as a new day and positive one will give you a positive attitude and a winner's outlook.
  3. Wake Up a Few Minutes Earlier
If you want to get out of bed at 6AM, set the alarm for 5:45 and then allow 15 minutes for your body and mind to adjust and wake up. At 6, hop out of bed! Waking up late and rushing through things will increase your heart rate and simply stress you out. On top of that, you'll inevitably forget to do something and then stress about that too! Add some 'breathing room' into your morning routine and start the day off relaxed and prepared instead of rushed and frantic.
  4. Take It Easy
Take things easy. Breathe deeply and slowly. If you are feeling rushed, take a deep breath and remind yourself that in the big scheme of life, being a minute late is pretty small.
  5. Plan the Things You Need to Do
It is always a good thing to try to keep a list of the things that you ought to do or accomplish for the day. If you are forgetful, you should write these things down. Aside from the things that you need to do at the office, you also need to remember those that you need to do for your family or friends. Write them all down so that you can manage your time wisely throughout the day.

Find the source and use it regularly.
